✍️ Deep Dive: The Truth About Journaling & How to Actually Use It
I Started Journaling in 2014—Here’s Why It Works
A mentor introduced me to journaling a decade ago. I wasn’t sure if it would work for me.
But after years of trying different styles—long-form writing, bullet journals, gratitude journals, structured prompts—I figured out what actually works.
And here’s the reality: Most people buy journals and never use them.
You know what I’m talking about…
You walk into a bookstore, see one of those aesthetic 5-minute journals, and think, this is it—I’m about to get my life together.
You buy it, open it, write your name on the first page… and then? It sits on a shelf collecting dust.
Or maybe you’ve tried a gratitude journal, but after a week, you run out of things to say:
"I’m grateful for my family, my health, and coffee."
This isn’t that kind of journaling.
And it’s not a “Dear Diary” situation either—unless that’s what works for you.
The point is that journaling isn’t about the format—it’s about function.
When used properly and consistently, it can help you reclaim 2+ hours a day by:
✅ Eliminating decision fatigue (stop overthinking, start executing)
✅ Reducing mental clutter (get thoughts out of your head and onto paper)
✅ Helping you move with intention (so no minute is wasted)
Here’s exactly how to make journaling work for you.
1. Get It Out of Your Head & Onto Paper
Most people lose time because they’re stuck in indecision.
They have too many thoughts, too many options, and too much uncertainty.
✅ First step: Write it down.
🔥 Try This:
Next time you feel overwhelmed, grab a piece of paper and write:
→ What’s on my mind right now?
→ What’s actually important?
→ What’s the next step I can take?
Instant relief. The moment you externalize your thoughts, your brain stops looping.
2. Eliminate Decision Fatigue & Free Up Mental Space
Every choice—big or small—drains mental energy.
Without a system, your brain gets stuck in loops:
"What should I work on first?"
"Did I forget something important?"
"Am I making the right move?"
✅ Journaling helps you make decisions faster—so you stop wasting time second-guessing yourself.
🔥 Try This:
At the start of your day, write down your top 3 priorities.
That’s it. Stick to them. Ignore the rest.
This one habit alone can easily save you an hour or more every day.
3. Use Journaling to Create "No White Space" in Your Schedule
Time wasted in uncertainty is time lost.
Journaling helps you move with intention so you can account for every minute.
That doesn’t mean grinding non-stop—it means being fully present in whatever you’re doing.
✅ Want to take a break? Plan it.
✅ Want free time? Block it out.
✅ Things go off track? No problem—adjust.
🔥 Try This:
At the end of each day, write down where your time actually went.
→ What went well?
→ Where did I waste time?
→ How can I adjust tomorrow?
This awareness alone will help you find hidden hours in your day.
⚡️ Work With Me
Lately, I’ve been hearing the same thing from people:
"I know what I need to do, but I just don’t have the time."
"I start the day with a plan, but by noon, everything’s gone off track."
"I feel like I’m always behind, no matter how hard I work."
If any of that sounds familiar, I get it. It’s exhausting. The constant pressure, the unfinished to-do lists, the feeling that no matter how much you accomplish, there’s always more.
I’ve been there. And I’ve spent years figuring out how to break out of it.
