#41 You Don’t Find Purpose. You Build It.
Hey, it’s Rafic.
Welcome back to this week’s edition of Peak Performance Insider.
This week, I want to talk about something that’s often misunderstood:
Purpose.
We think it’s a moment.
A discovery.
A lightbulb that suddenly switches on.
But purpose isn’t something you stumble across one day.
It’s something you build, through the work you do, the experiences you gather, and the person you become along the way.
If you’re feeling stuck, if you’re searching, if you’re questioning whether you’re on the right path, this one's for you.
📌 Here’s what we’re covering today:
✅ How purpose grows from action, awareness, and strengths
✅ Why passion often follows progress, not the other way around
✅ How to move forward even if you don’t have it all figured out

✍️ Deep Dive: You Don’t Find Purpose. You Build It.
When it comes to purpose, a lot of advice sounds the same:
"Find your passion."
"Follow your bliss."
It sounds good.
But it often leaves people feeling more lost than before.
Purpose isn't something you find outside yourself.
It's something you uncover by following the clues that are already within you, and then strengthening them over time.
It comes from action.
It comes from reflection.
It comes from choosing who you want to become.
🧠 Being vs. Doing: Why Both Matter
There’s a lot of talk about slowing down, being more mindful, and not getting caught up in constant doing.
That’s true, and important.
But slowing down without ever moving forward leaves you stuck.
And moving forward without ever pausing leaves you burned out.
Both are needed.
Action and awareness. Effort and presence. Doing and being.
-
Action helps you discover what lights you up, and what doesn’t.
-
Awareness helps you align your path with your values, not just your ambition.
One without the other leaves you off-balance.
Purpose is built by moving thoughtfully, not blindly.
And by being present enough to notice when a path feels right, or when it’s time to adjust.
🔥 The Purpose Playbook
If you want to get closer to your purpose, start here:
1️⃣ Notice What Makes You Lose Track of Time
Flow states aren’t accidents.
They’re guideposts.
Pay attention to what activities immerse you fully and make the hours disappear.
2️⃣ Build on Your Strengths
We often undervalue what comes naturally to us.
Yet leaning into your strengths is one of the fastest ways to find fulfillment—and make a real impact.
3️⃣ Stay Long Enough to See Progress
It’s easy to give up too soon.
Many passions only reveal themselves after you’ve built a little momentum and competence.
Stick with things long enough to experience real growth.
4️⃣ Trust Your Curiosity, and Test It
You don’t have to make perfect choices.
You just need to stay curious, and give yourself permission to try, to learn, and to adjust as you go.
🧭 Quick Exercise:
Grab a notebook or your notes app, and jot down:
-
5 things you love doing
-
5 things you’re naturally good at
-
5 things you’re curious about
Look for overlaps.
You’ll start seeing patterns that point you toward the work—and the life—that can energize you long term.

🎯 That's a Wrap
📌 Your Challenge This Week:
1️⃣ Try something new you’ve been curious about, even if it feels uncomfortable.
2️⃣ Pay attention to when you feel most alive and present during the week.
3️⃣ Reflect on how you’re growing, not just what you’re achieving.
Purpose isn’t about finding yourself.
It’s about creating yourself.
Little by little.
Step by step.
Experience by experience.
Keep building.
See you next Monday.
