6 Easy Steps to Overcome Limiting Beliefs Once and For All
Dec 08, 2024
Are Limiting Beliefs Holding You Back?
You’re at a crossroads.
One path leads to your dream career, fulfilling relationships, and a sense of purpose.
The other keeps you stuck—second-guessing, procrastinating, and settling for less.
You know the first path is where you want to go, but something holds you back.
You tell yourself:
❌ “I’m not ready.”
❌ “What if I fail?”
❌ “I’m just not the type of person who does this.”
That “something” isn’t the path itself.
It’s not even the fear of failure.
It’s the story you’ve been telling yourself—the invisible limiting beliefs shaping your reality.
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." — Henry Ford
The good news?
Limiting beliefs are learned, which means they can be unlearned.
This week, I’ll introduce you to the Profound Shift Framework—a 6-step process to identify, challenge, and replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones.
Let’s get started.
What Are Limiting Beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are mental boundaries we place around what we think is possible. They might sound like:
❌ “I’m not good enough to lead a team.”
❌ “I’ll never be financially independent.”
❌ “I’m not the kind of person who sticks to goals.”
These beliefs are not facts—they’re stories we’ve internalized over time.
They come from:
🔹 Early experiences – A teacher’s criticism, a failure, or a parent’s cautionary advice.
🔹 Society – Messages about what’s “normal” or achievable.
🔹 Fear – Protecting ourselves from disappointment by playing small.
These beliefs act as invisible scripts, running in the background, limiting our choices and potential.
The Real Cost of Limiting Beliefs
Unchecked limiting beliefs affect every area of your life:
⚡ Personal Growth – Fear of failure prevents you from exploring new opportunities.
⚡ Mental Health – Self-doubt increases stress, anxiety, and lowers confidence.
⚡ Relationships – Negative beliefs impact communication and trust.
⚡ Professional Success – Imposter syndrome leads to career stagnation and underperformance.
Imagine what would be possible if you removed one limiting belief.
What if you could be confident in your leadership, build a business, or master a skill?
Let’s break these beliefs down—step by step.
The Profound Shift Framework: 6 Steps to Overcome Limiting Beliefs
Step 1: Identify the Suspect 🔍
Think like a detective solving a case.
Your first step is to uncover the belief holding you back.
📌 Action: Write down the belief.
Then ask:
✅ Where did this belief come from?
✅ How does it show up in my life?
✅ When did I first start believing this?
Example: “I’m not creative enough to start my own business.”
Why this works:
Awareness is the first step to dismantling a belief. Once you name it, you take away its power.
Step 2: Stress Test the Belief ⚠️
Now, let’s put this belief under pressure.
Ask yourself:
✅ Is this belief universally true?
✅ What evidence contradicts it?
✅ How would someone I admire view this situation?
Example:
🚀 Have you ever solved a creative problem?
🚀 Have other people with less experience started businesses?
Why this works:
Most limiting beliefs fall apart when challenged.
Step 3: Invert the Belief 🔄
Now, let’s flip the script.
Instead of “I’m not creative enough,” replace it with:
✅ “Creativity is a skill I can develop and strengthen.”
✅ “I am creative when I allow myself to be.”
Then ask:
✅ What new possibilities open up if this belief were true?
Why this works:
The stories you tell yourself shape the reality you live. Change the story, change your reality.
Step 4: Engineer the Action Plan 🛠️
Now, let’s prove your new belief true.
📌 Action: Break it into small steps:
Step 1: Brainstorm business ideas without judgment.
Step 2: Share one idea with a trusted friend.
Step 3: Take one small action to bring it to life.
Why this works:
Action builds evidence, and evidence builds belief.
Step 5: Reinforce the New Belief 💡
To strengthen your belief, you need repetition.
📌 Action:
✅ Reframe your belief positively: “I am creative and capable.”
✅ Use affirmations daily.
✅ Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you.
Why this works:
Your environment influences your mindset. Choose wisely.
Step 6: Iterate & Reflect 🔁
Belief-shifting is a continuous process.
📌 Action:
✅ Journal about how your new belief is influencing your actions.
✅ Celebrate small wins.
✅ Adjust where needed.
Why this works:
Growth is iterative.
Further along your journey, you might even forget you ever held this limiting belief.
